The curious case of Yasmin Ahmad

Let me begin with a little prayer to our beloved and amazing storyteller; the late 51 years young Yasmin Ahmad. Al-Fatihah...

I'm sure we all know what's cooking in the pot of our Malaysian journalism at the moment. Nasty words are spreading far and wide as one journalist decided to play God by revealing stuff that he shouldn't be revealing, not while the whole nation is still deep in their sorrows after Yasmin's sudden depart last Sunday; July 25th 2009.

What could possibly have gone wrong? Why the sudden revelation? No one knows except for the irresponsible and insensitive Kosmo!'s Mohd Zaini Samsuhadi in his recent report titled "Daripada Striker Bola ke Pengarah Tersohor."

This is the time that he should praise her for all the things that she has contributed to our country. Not the other way round. This is the time that we should see what she saw in our pathetic life, in our so called BOLEHland, where Malay should always speaks Malay and Chinese should always speaks Chinese. She has inspired us despite all the ill tempers thrown at her by creating masterpieces that we should not only watch, but to admire. We wise Malaysians love Yasmin and they should respect that!

"I am optimistic and sentimental to the point of being annoying, especially to those who think being cynical and cold is cool. Everyday I thank Allah for the ability to breath, to love and to laugh." Yasmin Ahmad, August 2004.

well, what else can i say? it's a blunder we Malaysians have to face. Despite our scholars and intellects, there are still those few who are, shall we say, not as developed mentally as we are, that always always choose to hype up a story out of proportion to the point that it makes matters turn to an ultimate somber.

yasmin ahmad was truly an icon, a true idol that many aspiring film makers look up to. her departure was truly a shocking and baffling incident. she will always be remembered as the person who put Malaysia on the map in terms of films and the like.

however, notice how almost every great icon, like the late Sudirman and P. Ramlee die young? I've sort of found the haunting link between all of them and our late great Yasmin Ahmad.. see if you can dear blogger? :)
