Of me, Syuk and Jahar

Today I'll be in Kuching, meeting with two of my best friend; Syuk and Jahar. The last time I met them was like 2 months ago during my little brother’s wedding. Both are such a dear friend to me. We were in the same faculty during our study in UiTM Kota Samarahan (HIDUP UiTMCS!!!). I miss both of them so much...

Syuk or better known as ‘lelaki lindungan kaabah’ among his other friends is more than just a friend to me. He is my constructor and my wrecker at the same time. He use to be a planter once and now he’s a lecturer. I’m sure that tittle is suitable enough for him. He can be bitchy sometime and I’ve seen that, lots of time. I’ve seen him mocking and cursing his Trainee Assistant when he was in Sahua Estate. Well I think that Trainee Assistant deserved it as he was a total jerk and ungrateful for what Syuk have done for him. And that Trainee Assistant is now an Assistant manager, my neighbour, my gym partner and my friend. Great huh?

Syuk was not that fond of me when we first met. He was not mocking me, but I just knew that he did not adore me. You know what happen to all freshmen during their early university life right? Fresh college men are situated on the lowest possible level of the food chain in the university and they are ‘free’ to be twiddled as please by the seniors. This was when things twisted with me and Syuk. I was summoned for yet another harassment episode by one of the most feared senior and that was when I met Syuk; already shuddered in creeps, sitting statically in one corner of the room. I’m not planning to explain in detail on what had happened that day but Syuk and I became friend ever since.

Jahar on the other hand is my guru for basically everything. He thought me how to dress properly, how to address people, how to walk, how to talk, how to dance and even how to breathe. He doesn’t have that Brad Pitt DNA code in him but he is one adorable person. We share everything, except for underwear and we both had a good time with it. I always thought that he was this tough and never-will-cry type until he lost his brother in an accident sometime in January this year. That was the first I saw him cracked and cried and I was happy to be there when he needed me the most.

He can definitely dance and he was one of the many dancers for UiTMCS. Do I have to tell you this, but I was one of them too (ouchh!!!). There was one time when we were representing our college and we were doing zapin.

“Hidney, tolong ikatkan kain songket aku tok. Kedak longgar jak koh. Mati terlondeh time menari kelak.” He said to me when we were in the changing room. We were in a hurry and I was struggling with my kain songket too.

“Penari zapin cepat keluar. It’s your turn now. Cepat cepat cepat!!!” … and his kain was not properly tied. We were running hastily towards the stage and he looked at me before taking his position, rolled his eyes as if he wanted to say “I’m screwed!”

I was behind him all the time and I saw the kain slowly ‘untie’ itself. The moment of truth came and that kain finally decided to fall, thus reveling what’s underneath it. The crowd when electric but Jahar maintained his calm, dancing and smiling as if nothing happened. And we won the competition…

Today I’m going to spent time with both of them, exchanging jokes and stories like we use to do.
